Clubs and Enrichment

At Abbey Park we offer a range of Session 6 opportunities for our pupils to participate in. These run across the school from 15:10 – 16:10 every day. These include, clubs, revision sessions, supported study time, production rehearsals, G and T activities and fixtures (these may run later than 4.10pm) etc.

We have a range of sessions on offer from art to homework support and even languages in our French and Spanish “Conversation Café. Perhaps you have green fingers or a love of singing and acting? Why not come along and join our Gardening Club or Performance of ‘School of Rock.’ Here are just some examples of the clubs we offer:

“Join our Abbey Park Gardening Club! Whether you have prior experience, are keen to pick up a new skill or just like getting outdoors - gardening club offers the chance to learn how to grow flowers and vegetables, ready to take home/harvest before the Christmas break.”

“We are delighted to welcome back Art Club. This term we will produce work for," The Lions Club Peace Project," in lessons and opportunities to finish and add more detail in the club. Also, students may have an opportunity to produce work for Great Western on the theme, “The NHS."

Attendance at session 6 is compulsory for students who fail to hand in homework or are behind in their work or as a direct consequence of poor behaviour (parents are notified the previous day).

You can register for Session 6 through Arbor where a whole range of opportunities await you!

Duke of Edinburgh Awards

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is the world’s leading achievement award for young people. Their aim is to create a world where young people can reach their full potential whatever their circumstances. This nationally-recognised award perfectly illustrates the school’s commitment to offer high quality extra-curricular provision to complement excellent academic attainment.

The components of the award also reflect the school’s desire to equip students with relevant life skills that will also serve them well as they make their way toward Higher Education and employment.

The school offers Duke of Edinburgh’s Bronze and Silver Awards. Students from Years 9-11 undertake challenges posed by the different aspects of this award. The award is achieved by completing a personal programme of activities broken down into sections (see below). More details about the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme can be found at: www.dofe.org.
